2am on a cold and dark Leicester Morning... A few too many cigartte butts stick out of the bins outside of Leicesters Digital Media Centre, Phoenix Square... The smoke drifts away into the night and things begain to calm down... These are not simply cigarettes, they are covered with blood, blood from mouths and blood from hands, simply a lot of blood... No then smokers are not dying... They have simply visited the UK Festival of Zombie Culture and from the sounds of things they have had a bloody great time...
After 13 hours of zombie feature films, zombie short films, zombie make up artists, zombie guest stars and zombie gaming, the undead of the UK are spent, but people are already talking about the flms for 2012...
The films were digested hungily by the punters who enjoyed a mixture of High and Low Budget zombie epics, most opening with a short or two, to really get them in the mood... Below you can see Zombie Ed introducing a movie and the Director of Zomblies about to be attacked by one his cast, amongst other pics...
The UK Festival of Zombie Culture is also about the whole zombie experience, so we not only had film based stuff going on but we also had a authors like Sean Page and Dr Dale Seslick signing copies of their books, alongside Dean and Sian fom the UKs newest horror publication 'Shock Horror' PLUS a Forbiden Planet stand, filled to burst with everything from 'The Walking Dead' that you scould ever want. Plus the Terror4fun stall, of course.
Make Up was applied too from the likes of Gav'n Gore, Steven Uden and the now legendary Paul Ewen to anyone who wantd to be more Undead than alive and soon the place was rammed with folks who had arrived covered with latex and those that decided to 'die' on the spur of the moment...
UKRetroGamer brought down the Arcade of the Dead and this meant that we had a total of 16 different Zombie console games to play throughout the day, the most popular being House of the Dead Overkill with the 2 x pump action shotguns... We also had the 3 minute zombie challenge, this year with awesome CAPCOM release 'Dead Rising 2,' this years scores were noticeably lower than last years, but the game had not been out for that long...
All in all, the 13 hours of games, films, book signings and general zombie fun went far too quickly, leaving with Terror4fun the tasks of packing away the stall and simply picking scaby latex off the mirrors in the bathrooms... Once done, the talk turned to next year and exactly what films we could show, I personally love 'The Blind Dead' collection, but I am not sure if the viewing public is ready for 4 dubbed Spanish features in one long sitting...
Thanks for coming and hope to see you at the UK Festival of Zombie Culture 2011.
