Zombiefest 2011, this year, is another year where the hopes of survival are decreasing BUT the blind optimism of those attending and about to experience Mexico in the late 1800s is still quite high… No-one has walked away alive for the past 3 years, but surely, things must change for the better… Surely some time soon we will find someone with the skills to survive when faced with the Zombie Apocalypse…

Friday Night

Puddles of blood cover the floor, bottles of Tequila are being cracked open, bottles of Sol and sliced limes litter the tables… Yes it's another Friday at Zombiefest and its 4 o'clock and things are heading in the right direction… First things, first, the bar is open, the food is being served and people are all getting together, making new friends and catching up with old ones. Then the short zombie film presentation began on the big cinema screen, with good films, bad films, funny films, terrifying films, but the two things they all have in common is that they have a pile of zombies in them and the second is that they all stand out for one big reason, although it could be good, bad or ugly…. Once the laughs, cries and vomiting, all caused by our zombies films is over, then its time to chill out, play some zombie games, have a drink and chill out round the fire, watching the dawn break and then thinking, Oh my God, its 5 in the morning, so it may be a good idea to get some sleep… and then blissful unconsciousness…

Saturday AM

Tea… Bacon… Tea…Toast… GUNS !!! So, yes, you did read that correctly, after fighting back to the reality of the fest, the shooting and the archery begins, with professional supervision from the sites staff, people get the opportunity to practice a few times and then to blow chunks out of zombie targets… That's the idea anyway, but to be honest, a lot of the people this year, like every year, talk the talk but unfortunately fail to walk the walk.

Saturday PM

Its fun time... Its time to go to war... The Zombie Experience.... Where people will ultimately find out if they have what it takes to survive... Welcome to the Cantina De Los Muertos, it's 1871 and the killing is about to start...

For more info about what happened, who was killed and to find out if anyone survived then head on to... Page 1... and Page 2... and Page 3...

Sunday

The blood has dried out in the sinks and in the toilets, leaving faint hints of the previous days activities… To be honest anyone finding the bin filled to the brim with blood soaked latex would be well within their rights to call an officer of the law, but Sunday is a day of looking forward… Looking forward to gallons of tea, more bacon cobs and toast & marmalade and the awards from the event… A bit of a speech from Zombie Ed (me) followed by a whole host of awards including Best Zombie, Best and Worst at Shooting and Archery and for the first time in three years… The I WOULD SURVIVE THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE AWARD… I normally shy away from using too many capital letters but this time I will make an exception…

The prizes varied from the mundane (Best Bits of Big Brother on DVD) for people that really could not hit anything with any type of weapon to the massive… The survivor won a copy of ‘The Walking Dead' super version graphic novel, yes the 1,200 page version… ‘Thanks' were said to the crew, which included everyone that helped in the kitchen, ‘see you soons' were said to the guests and a massive thank you to the various baby-sitters involved… People then started to fade, leaving a few of us to clean and finally no evidence of the event remained on the site apart from that bucket of latex, blood soaked scabs... NICE…
